Shave. Save Water. Repeat. – Water Saving Grooming Tips

To help bring awareness to the global water scarcity crisis, MËNAJI Advanced Men’s Skincare continues its water saving campaign #SaveWater on World Water Day 2017. The MENAJI #SaveWater Campaign reminds guys to conserve water, turn off their faucets when they groom and choose products that require little to no water use in their daily routines including our Clear Shave 3-in-1 Formula and Power Hydrator.

Other Water Saving Tips

Firmly Turn Off Your Faucets
Just a small drip from your bathroom sink can waste up to 20 gallons of water a day, and that number increases with every faucet within the home.

Increase the Efficiency of Your Laundry
Only wash a load of clothes when they completely fill the machine; don’t waste an entire spin and rinse cycle on a lone pair of jeans. You might also consider the purchase of an Energy Star washer, which reduces a load by 10-20 gallons on average.

Change Your Grooming Habits
You probably already know you shouldn’t leave the water running while you brush your teeth. But did anyone ever tell you about shaving? You’ll save tons of water if you fill the sink instead of turning on the tap every time you rinse your razor. The same goes for washing your face or wetting your hair. Our Clear Shave 3-in-1 product which requires NO water while moisturizing the skin. Also: skip washing your hair every day which only dries out the scalp.

Check For Leaks
Check all the plumbing and piping within your home. Is anything wet or rusted? Anything showing signs of corrosion? Even if you don’t see any conspicuous dripping, check for water damage on the floor and walls. If it’s there, something is leaking. Investing in a visit from the plumber now could save you big money in the future!

Fix Your Showers
Everyone likes a long, hot shower, but all that time you spend warming up the water is wasting it. Install insulation over your pipes and you’ll have hot water ready almost instantly. You can also purchase a “flow low” water-saving shower head that will save you up to two gallons a minute.

According to Treehugger.com, when the average American takes even a 5-minute shower, he or she uses more water than an average person in a poverty-stricken area of a developing country uses in a whole day.

Stop Unnecessary Flushing
It takes five to seven gallons of water to flush a toilet. How many times have you flushed a single tissue or cigarette butt? Save your trash for the actual trash can.

Store Water Bottles in the Fridge
Most of us need cold water on a regular basis, whether it’s for drinking, washing vegetables or cleaning up a spill. But running the tap and waiting for it to cool will waste several gallons of perfectly good water, rather just fill a few bottles and keep them stored in the fridge for later use.

Need a Car Wash? Be Careful With the Hose
Washing your car the traditional way, with the hose running at full blast, will spill a staggering 150 gallons of water. Instead, fill a bucket with soapy water and bring out the hose only for the final rinse. You should consider a professional wash if you’re truly dedicated to reducing your environmental impact.

Ten Secrets to Sensational Skin

Sensational Men's Skin

Every day, the team at MENAJI receives at least one call from a customer asking how he can take better care of his skin. So, in an effort to answer this question and to inspire all guys to think about the skin as an external organ that needs attention, we dedicated our June 2016 blog to revealing uncomplicated ways to take care of your skin – particularly the skin on your face.

We didn’t get into the skincare game because we don’t know men’s skin intimately. So here are our top glow-boosting skin care tips for men to keep your skin refreshed, revitalized, healthy, and oh yes…clean.

  1. NEVER USE SOAP to wash your face. Use a tiny bit of face cleanser, and gently foam into a lather in your hands and then apply to your face.
  2. SLEEP A LOT. When you sleep the decline in body temperature increases blood flow to the skin.
  3. WEAR SUNSCREEN daily.  Protection goes a long way.
  4. EXERCISE to increase blood flow which helps carry away waste products, including free radicals, from working cells.
  5. CONSUME ALCOHOL in moderation — Too much booze is simply not good for your skin.
  6. DON’T SMOKE.
  7. DRINK lots of WATER.
  8. REDUCE stress.
  9. EAT lots of avocados, citrus fruits, tomatoes, and papaya.
  10. BE HAPPY. Think positive thoughts, do something you love each day, and keep in touch with friends. A happy soul is a large contributor to healthy skin!

READY FOR BEARD STYLE 2016?

The Designer Beard Style Isn’t a Beard At All…

Men looking to update their style in an understated way will want to adopt 2016’s most popular beard style – which is not a beard at all, but rather – The Stubble.

This look, made popular by hot and hunky Hollywood celebrities, is a brand new style in the ever-expanding list of beards. Though many have achieved the look on their own – the real designer Stubble adds a casual layer of approachability to the wearer. The Stubble also enhances a strong chin or masculinity to a weak chin.  But, although it looks “effortless,” it still does require uh… effort.

MENAJI advises any man looking to sport The Stubble this season to know where to shave and when to trim. There’s a fine line between designer Stubble and looking unclean, unkempt and sloppy.

STEP 1 – EXFOLIATE
Nothing is worse than trying to keep your Stubble free from red bumps caused by ingrown hairs. Avoid this problem by exfoliating with a good scrub like the one from MENAJI. Made with natural botanicals, and tough enough to use only once or twice a week, it can be incorporated into maintaining your Stubble style very easily. Simply remember to use your scrub on the same schedule as your Stubble landscaping.

STEP 2 – CLEAR SHAVE GEL
CLEAR is CRITICAL in order to shave the hair growing on cheekbones and temples down to the line under your cheekbones parallel to your jawline. If you can’t see what you’re doing, you will end up clean shaven whether you want to or not. We recommend MENAJI CLEAR SHAVE 3-IN-1. A transparent cooling gel, ClearShave is chock full of botanicals your skin will appreciate and is perfect for precise lines and corners.

STEP 3 – SHAPING
Cheeks: Top professional barbers suggest that if your natural stubble grows up high on your cheeks, you should shave the hair just below the cheekbone, parallel to your jawline. This should be performed every 2 to 4 days as needed.
Stache:  You should also clean up your mustache with a scissors or a precision trimmer, removing any stray hairs.
Stubble:  Then take your the trimmer (1 mm works best) and shave in the direction of hair growth. Pay close attention to how long you are trimming because you could go too short. Best Stubble shavers recommended by top barbers include i-Stubble by Conair, Philips Norelco BeardTrimmer 3500, Philips Norelco BeardTrimmer 7300.

STEP 4 – CLEANING
Look below your chin for stray hairs and stray patches that don’t grow directly underneath the jawline. Shave these unwanted hairs off.  Or for a better, more precise line, consider getting them waxed once a week.

STEP 5 – HYDRATING
Finish up with a generous amount of a hydrator to plump up and protect your newly shaved, trimmed and waxed skin. Even though you can’t see under The Stubble very well, your skin still needs to be protected and kept healthy for your Stubble to look good. We recommend the MENAJI Power Hydrator.

Remember: ALL beard styles require maintenance. Avoid growing designer Stubble if you’re not prepared to maintain it.

Think Barbershops Still Only Offer a Shave and a Haircut?

Think again.

Barbering has changed dramatically since 2000 when a few rogue stores upgraded by offering designer shaves and offered booze inside the stores.

Now men can count on chains offering state-of-the-art hair styles, top shelf liquor, energy drinks, and spa-style amenities – all the products you can’t buy in drugstores or grocery stores.

Men’s grooming has redefined the barbershop experience for today’s urban gentlemen. And it’s not about being Metrosexual – it’s about staying Machosexual. Today’s barbershops offer high-end men’s skincare products and supplies, with luxurious emollients, within a classic Boys’ Club barbershop experience.

Here’s the difference.

Unlike women, men tend to be very goal-oriented, typically wanting fast results, simplicity, minimal discomfort, and minimal downtime. These desires have made multifunctional barbershops and skincare products ideal.

Trendy Barbers offer:

1. Fast results/service
2. Facials, manpering, grooming advice
3. Classic yet stylish design
4. Booze and cocktails
5. Healthy drink options
6. Luxury retail grooming products
7. Casual Ambiance/Wifi

So, think again. Or better yet – visit one.

Here is a list to start: Maxim’s Hotlist 2015

911? Chill Out.

911? Chill Out.

Experts know that the secret to making a person commit to a beauty brand is the way it makes them feel. Eye gels that contain specific formulations to reduce puffiness are always a hit because you see immediate results and they feel soothing. The better the formulation, like Mënaji’s 911 Eye Gel, the better the feeling.

That said, there are more ways to enhance your experience with a terrific eye gel like our 911.

Chill it in the fridge.

The use of cold therapy on puffy eyes or under-eye “bags” is effective because cold temperatures constrict the blood vessels, which reduces the flow of fluid into the soft tissue. This results in a reduction of inflammation and puffiness—and feels really great!

Coolness also stimulates lymphatic drainage and a lot of people wake up with puffy eyes because fluid can pool in trough of your under-eye area, especially if you’ve had too much salt the day before.

Don’t make the mistake of putting it in the freezer though, because you will have to replace it. Eye gels do not thaw out back to normal. The extreme cold ruins the product and its efficacy.

Shaved Head Hairstyles Managed with MENAJI

Shaved Head Hairstyles Managed with MENAJI

Having a trendy, presentable and stylish hairstyle is as important for a contemporary man as it is for a woman. When a woman first meets you, your hairstyle is the first thing she’ll notice – after your shoes, of course

David Beckham has made changing his hairstyle a staple in his wardrobe, particularly shaved head styles. He is an awesome example of how you can transform your looks with a shaved head and add a stylish edge to your appearance. A full-shaved head can also showcase rugged facial features!

Luckily this look is well-understood by today’s modern barbershops. So choose a trendier barbershop who knows you will need more than “a little off the top”.

Here are some steps and products to use for this hairstyle.

1. Before you start the transformation it’s important you wash and exfoliate (Face & Body Scrub by MËNAJI) your head in order to prevent in-grown hairs, rashes or infections of any sort.

2. Keep your scalp muscles relaxed and your skin well-moisturized throughout the shaving process.

3. Towel dry your head and apply a hydrating cream (Power Hydrator by MËNAJI) to moisturize your skin — it won’t clog your pores.

4. Remember to exfoliate (Face & Body Scrub by MËNAJI) every few days to prevent ingrown hairs.

5. Finally, apply ANTI-SHINE to your head starting with the back with light pats working your way to the front and forehead to prevent shine throughout.

Shaved head haircuts offer a change in style that can make you look more youthful, more pulled together, and current. Shaved head haircuts are also more versatile. They can be worn neatly styled for work, and a change in finish for the weekend is only a product choice away!

Up Your Grooming Game Before Tying the Knot

Are you about to get married? Congratulations!

But before you wait at the altar for your betrothed, you need to up your grooming game for the big day.

Why? Because in all the excitement, Grooms forget that it’s the single most important day in your life where you will have your own personal paparazzi, following you around taking video, shooting photographs, capturing the event on phones, and dispersing the images across the internet through social channels.

Here are 4 steps to looking your best for your wedding without overthinking it.

STEP 1 – Cleanse – Face & Body Scrub will exfoliate, clean and renew your skin with our specially designed scrub for men’s skin. It contains a unique blend of certified organic lime peel oil, jojoba, ginseng, kelp, azulene and aloe. Why are these ingredients useful? They unclog pores, they are anti-inflammatory, address acne and clear up blemishes and stimulates skin regeneration and lessens wrinkles.

STEP 2 – Correct – 911 Eye Gel to the rescue for tired and overworked eyes. Place a tube of this in the refrigerator a couple days ahead and put on the day before and the day of the wedding directly under the eyes. Containing allantoin, chamomile, aloe and wheat protein, 911 smoothes and improves the texture of sunken or puffy under-eye bags/skin.

STEP 3 – Protect – Power-hydrate your razor-raw face with powerful nutrients and rebuild that face’s collagen. Youthful glowing skin without the oil and dewy look – just for men. Follow up with our Lip Agent to keep those lips moist for the big moment when you finally “Kiss the Bride.” (p.s. you’ll be kissing her entire family too – so…)

STEP 4 – Conceal – CAMO is your secret weapon. Totally undetectable and light as air concealer for all the spots you didn’t think you had…Follow up with HDPV Anti-Shine to deflect any funky lighting and summertime sweat from making you look shiny and oily. You may not be a TV star – but you’ll play one on the big day.

And that’s your recipe for Grooming the Groom (and his groomsmen). Up your Grooming Game when you’re the Groom and you’ll have photos you won’t cringe at when viewing them many years from now.

How Different is a Man’s Skin, and Why Does it Matter?

There are profound differences between the sexes in myriad categories, however when comparing their skin, the only comment used to be that women were the “fairer” sex and that their skin was “softer.”

The implied idea that a man’s skin was “rougher,” and that it may not have needed a lot of (or any) care, we now know of course is false. Thanks, in part, to the men’s growing grooming industry, we now know that men’s skin needs a lot more care than men themselves are willing to give it.

  • Men’s skin is about 25% thicker. Testosterone is the reason why. A man’s skin needs more hydrating ingredients because constant shaving can dry out the skin. Thickness requires formulations that can penetrate well.
  • Men’s skin is oilier. Testosterone stimulates sebum production and men need products that take that into account. Increased sebum can also create a reddish, ruddy complexion. Not all moisturizers are created equal and men should look for those that don’t feel greasy. Men should also find an anti-shine powder that can cover ruddiness and even out the skin tone without causing breakouts.
  • Men have more facial hair. Men need shave creams and gels that are gentle on the skin and prep the hair for a comfortable, closer shave. Men need products that account for the added sensitivity a man has on his skin due to shaving.
  • Men have larger pore size. They need products that won’t clog pores or cause ingrown hairs, and that will cover problem skin more evenly if ANTI-SHINE powder or concealer is needed.
  • Men sweat 3 times more than women. Hydrating the skin is extremely important, thus men should include a product in their grooming that hydrates well.

Men’s skin is very different. The more educated men become about their skin, the more seriously they will take cleaning their skin and hopefully incorporate grooming routines that cleanse, correct, protect, conceal and make their skin look better, into their daily lives.

Take away: Use products created and developed specifically for men, and hydrate often.
