Menaji men are not afraid of pink

It’s football season in the US and some may have noticed all the pink that has adorned our professional teams since October 1st. The influx of pink has nothing to do with increasing women viewership, but a tribute to breast cancer awareness month.

Now you ask why would men and men’s athletics truly care about supporting breast cancer awareness month? Yes, breast cancer has effected many people’s grandmothers, mothers, sisters and daughters, and because of this, it is mainly seen as a women’s issue. Did you know that breast cancer affects men too? The number is smaller, most likely due to the smaller amount of breast tissue, but in every 100 new breast cancers cases 1 male will be diagnosed.

Male breast cancer is just as curable as the cancer found in women; unfortunately, most males get diagnosed late due to lack of suspicion, making it seem more severe. Just as in women, the sooner a diagnosis is made the higher the cure rate. So get out and get checked!

Here at Menaji we are proud to wear pink in October and throughout the year!

The Asset Guide

Every man should own a few select items that he can consider an “asset.” Something that he has spent a little more money on and can use with pride knowing it will stand the test of time at least for a few years. So we at Menaji have drafted up a guide of 5 items that we believe every man should purchase once they have a little disposable income to treat themselves with:

So without further ado here is Menaji’s 2012 Men’s Essential Asset Guide:

  1. Full Size Bed or Larger: It is time to move on from that twin bed you have had since you were an adolescent.  Every grown man should have his own full size bed or larger. One of the best feelings in the world is lying down in bed after a long day’s work, so why should you settle on something that can barely fit your manly figure. Be bold and take your life by the reigns, come into adulthood and enjoy the perks of a bigger bed. It is your rite of passage.
  2. Matching Luggage Sets: Every man should have at least two pieces of matching luggage. We are grown men with disposable income; no longer should we use the duffle bag we have used since our days at summer camp. You do not have to have the gaudy LV’s all over your bags to make a statement. There are plenty of quality products out there that will get the job done and have you traveling with pride.
  3. Flat-Screen Television: It is 2012 and finding an affordable quality television is easier than finding an affordable quality anything. For a couple hundred dollars, you can find serviceable equipment that will not leave you in the stone-age. Be the man your friends want to call up when it is time to watch the big game.
  4. Tablet:  Again we are in age where affordable meets quality and most people are shifting away from the personal computer in favor of the tablet. Advances in technology have driven the prices down and newer generations/models come out yearly. From iPads to Galaxy Notes, the amount of toys man has to play with are growing by the second. Do not be that guy who pulls out his bulky laptop on the bus or plane. Do not be THAT GUY…
  5. Smartphone: The mercurial smartphone has taken over the hands of millions, and if you are not one of them I am sure you have been made the butt of plenty of jokes regarding your cellular device. With the endless options in all price ranges, it has become another affordable technology that one would be remise to not take advantage of. I have owned one for the better part of six years and I have never looked back.

Now practicing smart consumer behavior is the best mode of action for any “expensive” purchase. Use your judgment, research your options and find what suits you. And as always, do not make a decision unless you are comfortable with it! Until next time, adios Gents!

Back to the Blogging Board

Now it has been a while since I have written to you gents and for that I apologize, summer is over and fashion week has come and gone so it is time the Menaji Man rededicates to educating and discussing what makes us Men awesome!

The cold weather has been nipping at our heels and soon enough we may need to add an extra layer into our daily style to fight off the brisk winds of fall in NYC. Now if you are like me, you despise the first day you have to pay that extra $4 dollars to the coat check attendant to stow your jacket away when you are out on the town. It is never the money, it’s the principle! (Sometimes it is the money…) I am cashed out by March.

So what does one do to avoid this annual dilemma, and I say it is simple: Smart layering. Here are three outfit suggestions that may help you through the post summer hangover that comes with the cold weather and delay the inevitable…coat check season:

  1. Sweaters and cardigans: For many, sweaters and cardigans have always been a part of their daily garbs already, but for those who have yet to incorporate these old time fashions, it is the perfect time to dive head first into the mix. From crew necks to V-necks, cashmere to merino wool, the options are endless. You can mix and match with your favorite oxford or undershirt and depending on the brand and outlet; you can look quite dapper for a fraction of the cost of your beloved high fashion brand.
  2. Vests: Now for some vests are just not their style and may leave them looking like Aladdin, but I say hey why not try something new and after all Aladdin did end up courting a dime like Jasmine. Not all vests will keep you warm, but with the right combination of undershirt and material, the vest can add another layer of protection against the elements. Your outfit is only as formal as you make it and there are plenty of different options you can play with to match your personal style. My favorite is the oxford/tie combo with my favorite pair of jeans.  Leave the bottom 2 buttons unbuttoned to top it all off.
  3. Flannel: Like any other fashion, there is a time and place for flannel and while I do not recommend donning the red and black plaid to a 5 star restaurant, the flannel has come back into fashion with a vengeance in the last few years. 21st century fashion has transformed the drab flannel plaid to one that promotes variety in color, pattern and material used. While traditionally used as a functional form of outdoor garb, the flannel has become a force to be reckoned with. This is not your grandfather’s LL Bean anymore.  Don’t sleep on the flannel; it may just save you this winter.

So there you have it, 3 quick and easy tips. Painless and informative…until next week Gents.
